Where GitHub Copilot is the better choice
- Distribution is hard to beat: one plan covers VS Code, Visual Studio, JetBrains, Xcode, Neovim, Eclipse, Zed, SQL Server Management Studio, Raycast, the CLI and github.com.
- There is a real free tier with no card required: 2,000 completions a month, the CLI, model choice and community support.
- The cloud agent and pull-request code review are included from the Pro tier, and Pro+ can delegate tasks to third-party coding agents such as Claude Code and Codex in preview.

Is GitHub Copilot an alternative to SynthHires?
They overlap in the middle and differ at the edges. Copilot is an assistant and a cloud agent inside GitHub’s ecosystem: unbeatable if your work is already there. SynthHires runs a supervised team of agents from the browser over code and non-code work, with your own model keys. Choosing Copilot is choosing convenience and one bill; choosing SynthHires is choosing provider choice and visibility of the real token cost.
Do I need my own API key with GitHub Copilot?
No. Copilot is a subscription service with included GitHub AI Credits, and you can buy more on Pro and above — there is no key to manage. SynthHires goes the other way: bring a key from any provider in our catalog, no markup on tokens, $0 free tier and $9/month paid. If you want one bill and no key management, that is Copilot’s model.
Which one can run agents unattended?
Copilot’s cloud agent is purpose-built for that: assign it an issue and it researches, plans, writes the code and can open a pull request, with code review available too.
